Solid spot for Tex-Mex. I went on a Saturday at 4 PM and barely had to wait--always a win. The brisket taco stole the show, super tender and flavorful. The other brisket option was great too, but the chicken and bacon one didn't hit as hard for me. What did hit? The potatoes and queso. That queso was ridiculously thick and creamy, and the potatoes were cooked to perfection--crispy on the outside, fluffy inside. Definitely worth a visit, especially if you're craving some killer brisket.

Texas- style tacos in LA. The tortillas are fresh and soft, the fillings are flavorful, and the queso is a standout. The Blanco (eggs and Monterey Jack), is simple but perfectly executed. Their shredded beef was just a little too dry for my liking but it was still flavorful and the fillings my tacos came with were nice. The vibe is casual and inviting, making it a great spot for a quick bite or a leisurely weekend breakfast. Expect a bit of a wait during peak hours, but it's worth it.

With a family member in a nearby hospital and eating on the fly, this place is just what I needed. Tastes like home cooked goodness! I ordered the Migas Lonestar and think I said "OMG" several times while I was eating. It is THAT GOOD! Love the diner vibe and awesome staff made this experience that much better. Homemade tortillas and salsa's are a bonus! Also tried the Trinity taco on house made tortilla and crispy fries. It all screams like home. I'll be back again and again. You should too. You can thank me later!

Part of a chain of seven HomeState restaurants in the Los Angeles area, HomeState Hollywood is the original location, opened in 2013. It's inspired by Tex-Mex cuisine, and is especially known for their breakfast tacos. My co-father-in-law and I stopped in for a quick breakfast, after taking the B-Line from downtown (getting off at Vermon/Sunset) on our way to Griffith Park. It's a small location, with some 4 person tables, bench seating, and a nice bar area where we sat. You place your order (and pay) with the cashier first, and they will deliver it for you after taking a number. My companion had already eaten breakfast, so just wanted some drip coffee ($4 which he said tasted fine). There is free self-serve tap water on the side (which was my beverage), and ordered 3 brisket tacos (Pecos $5.50 each) with choice of flour (my choice) or corn tortillas. It came soon after, along with 2 types of pourable salsas which added a lot. I thought the tacos were OK, using very high quality, shredded brisket, super moist with no gristle/fat, but not particularly flavorful. The only other ingredient was scrambled eggs which were good, and a really tasty homemade tortilla. Wish they had some optional condiments or toppings, specifically pickled red onion would be great. The tacos were a bit bigger than a normal street taco, requiring probably four bites. Definitely worth eating, but wouldn't take your friends from Texas who would be used to better tacos at lower prices. Since we were at the bar, we didn't have to bus. We spent most of the rest of the day walking/hiking and the tacos settled really well. Definitely high quality ingredients and friendly service...next time will their frito pie in a bag (a favorite of mine).

Our third or fourth Homestate we've traversed too. It's always a safe bet for any meal of the day and so reasonably priced. Breakfast tacos are awesome and the homemade salsas add a nice touch. It's comfortable to sit in and you never wait for long. Whenever we're in the LA area and the question is 'what do we do about breakfast' more than 90% of the time we both just agree to HomeState. It's an stress-less experience and it's not stuffy brunch place. They have the BEST!!!! Orange juice from Perricone farms there. I would just stop by for the OJ.

Was looking for breakfast burrito and HomeState came up in the search. Wasn't sure what to expect as there ended up being no burritos. We ordered the Lonestar Migas and a queso with chips for two of us to share and it was a lot. The migas was loaded with eggs, corn strips, onions, shredded brisket, pico de gallo, and cheese. Between the migas and queso, the corn strips/chips were very filling and we didn't finish either. The cashier was helpful with questions I had about the food. It's a limited service restaurant where you get your own water from a dispenser and pick up your own utensils and bring to a table along with the number you're given after ordering. It's a cute little restaurant with al fresco dining outside. The food was tasty, I would come back again to try other items.

A friend introduced me to HomeState years ago, and while I don't go there very often, I've consistently enjoyed their tacos and friendly service. This location has outdoor sidewalk seating along with tables inside. I often get their chicken tacos, which include guacamole and a cabbage slaw. The Guadalupe is another standby, and that mixes egg, chorizo, and cheddar. Their chips and guacamole are an enjoyable side, and they also offer a great selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
